On 14 May, the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art joins the initiative of the International Night of the Museums and welcomes visitors to free events, exhibitions, guided tours and educational activities until midnight

M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art (V. Putvinskio st. 55)
Working hours: 17.00–24.00 

We have prepared spaces for your favourite educational activities and creative workshops. One of them – "Create a Picture Yourself" – will introduce the most important symbols in Čiurlionis' works. Those who wish to create their own initials or write love letters in ink, with a brush and a pen are invited to visit the "Love Postcards" area, while in the educational workshop "A Whimsical Pastel" you will try out the kind of crayons used by Čiurlionis and learn how the famous artist formed shapes on a piece of paper. The activity "Puzzles for the Observant" will enable you to compose paintings by Čiurlionis, the youngest ones impressed by the fabulous world of Čiurlionis will be able to make ornate crowns.

Visitors are invited to the exhibition "That Which We Do Not Remember" by the world-renowned artist William Kentridge, presented by “Kaunas – the European Capital of Culture 2022”. In the newly opened exhibition "Stasys Ušinskas' Marionettes and the International Aesthetics of Modernism" you will admire the marionettes created by the prominent artist Stasys Ušinskas. You will surely be interested in the museum's permanent exhibitions: "Lithuanian Art of the 14th – 19th Centuries", "Lithuania – the Land of Crosses", "Archaics: Lithuanian Folk Art of the 18th – 20th Centuries", and once again you will immerse yourselves in the world of Čiurlionis at the exhibition of his works.

Kaunas Picture Gallery (K. Donelaičio st. 16)

The exhibition "The Memory of Being" by the artist Marina Abramović, an icon of the world of art, has become one of the most impressive events of "Kaunas – the European Capital of Culture 2022". For the first time, it is arranged as a spectacular video installation comprised of a selected documentation of performances and films by the author. The exhibition organized by the gallery “Meno parkas“ provides a comprehensive overview of Marina Abramović’s work from the 1960s until recent years. Visitors are presented the documentary material, the artist's creative biography, her famous Manifesto and a unique creative Method. The exhibition is intended for people from 18 years of age.

A. Žmuidzinavičius Creations and Collections Museum / Devils‘ Museum (V. Putvinskio st. 64)

At the Antanas Žmuidzinavičius Memorial House we invite you to have a look at the artist's living environment and work, as well as the world‘s most famous collection of devils. In the museum you will also see an exhibition “The Shadow” comprised of works by the teachers of the Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius Academy of Arts Donatas Inis and Justinas Krasuckas, and their students representing the atelier of Classical realism; a video installation “What Happens to a Fish After it Dies? by Lina Lapelytė created for the 13th Biennial of Kaunas “Once Upon Another Time... they lived a different life“, and Shary Boyle's (Canada) installation “A Trodden Devil”.

18.00–20.00. A special creative workshop "Memories" will take place in the garden of Antanas Žmuidzinavičius. We will invite everyone to try out a new creative technique. You will be able to decorate your own cups, glasses, vases and mirrors. Come and try this magic with your family or a group of friends. If the weather gets rainy, the workshop will take place inside the museum. Materials you will need: your own cup or a saucer (glazed, monochromatic, preferably white), glassware (a cup, a glass – monochromatic as well). We will provide all other necessary material.

European Museum Night is back and rollin'! You are welcome to explore the museum and its surroundings on your own or join a tour.
45 min tours for English speaking visitors:
8 pm – tour in a new exhibition “Stories of the House” (ground floor of the palace)
9 pm – tour in an open-air exhibition “Europe in Kaunas” (outside, in the garden)

A. and P. Galaunė House – Museum (Vydūno av. 2)
Working hours: 17.00–22.00

A new exhibition “Modern Simplicity” will be opened on the Night of the Museums. We will invite you to get inspired by the creation of Pablo Picasso, Henry Matisse, Raoul Dufy and others. The works comprise the collection of the “Exhibition of French Modern Art" (1939) housed at the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art. Visitors will also be able to see the memorial exhibition "ARNO FUNK [TIONALISM]” and the exhibition for young visitors “MODER ... WHAT? THE MODERNISM OF KAUNAS! AND THE PROFESSION OF AN ARCHITECT”.

J. Zikaras House – Museum (J. Zikaro st. 3)
Working hours: 17.00–22.00

The house of sculptor Juozas Zikaras in one of the most beautiful places in Kaunas, at the foot of Pelėdos Hill, tells a lot of engaging stories. After visiting the renovated exhibition, you will be invited to the living area of the sculptor and his family, a workshop which reveals and acquaints with the interior characteristics of the 1910s and authentic details that had survived. Of course, you will admire the magnificent panorama of Kaunas.
