M. K. Čiurlionis’ 146th Birthday Celebration

M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art

On September 25th we would like to invite you to celebrate the 146th birthday of M. K. Čiurlionis together with us.

A free-of-charge program awaits the participants of the festival. A tour presented in English, awards for the winners of the “Visit the Museum – Win Friendship” game, and a great classical music concert.

2 PM–2.45 PM – a tour in English “The friendship between M. K. Čiurlionis and J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy worlds”. This tour is a trek through the fantasy worlds of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, in search of common stories, imagery, and secret writing. It is a story about a friendship that has never materialized. You will find out how Čiurlionis’ “Castle Fairy Tale” is similar to the seven-story white city of Minas Tirith, the capital of Gondor, where the most important battle of The War of the Ring took place.

4 PM – Awards for the participants of the “Visit the museum – win Friendship” game.

4.15 PM – A classical music concert by Violeta Coutaz (piano, France) and Saulius Bartulis (cello, Lithuania). A unique opportunity to hear M. K. Čiurlionis’ works arranged by J. Čelkauskas for piano and cello. The concert will feature J. S. Bach’s Sonata for organ, Toccata and Fugue in D minor for piano, while at the end of the musical meeting an inspiring piece by V. Bartulis for cello and piano “Lullaby” will be heard.

All events are free of charge. The Covid Certificate is required.
Due to a limited number of participants please register for the tour and concert by calling 370 671 513 43 during regular business days from 9 AM to 4.30 PM.
