The exhibition of Adolis Jonas Krištopaitis‘ (1925–2000) works “The Earth and Spring to Himself“, dedicated to the artist‘s centenary commemoration.
We invite you to refresh your acquaintance with an artist who enriched the modernist landscape of the 20th-century Lithuanian art; to enter the thought-laden rooms of A. J. Krištopaitis' paintings; to see the mischievous sides of a painterly gaze where art becomes an intellectual game; to perceive paintings nurtured by thoughts but, simultaneously, approaching the horizons of inexpressibility. And, of course, to discover the "Dome of Novelty" which introduces the works housed in private and public collections, those that were on display long ago or never so far. Actually, we should be grateful to the multifaceted nature of A. J. Krištopaitis' work for developing western-like horizons of our painterly landscape.
He is a master of metaphorical symbols. A darling of the Lady Aesthetics. A player of intellectual witticisms. And, of course, a unique portraitist. After all, A. J. Krištopaitis' thought-laden paintings open up with an unobtrusive hum of metaphor, with the oscillation of thought in the far-off destinations – silent, and therefore sometimes imperceptible. Adolis is a painter of a wide spectrum of themes and forms which is always clean and washed. It suggests a peaceful observation of the world – when “the grass of brushstrokes” is grown on canvases, and the meanings emerge with spring clouds through the earthly stable structures of the paintings.
A. J. Krištopaitis once said: “I want a person visualize my hints, emotions, and the brightest thoughts as if through a light haze, treat them like a vision. I wish he had space, no feel of my diktat, my presence. Instead, I want him be conscious of the most glittering lights of his inner world“.
