On Thursday, November 6, at 5 p.m., the opening of Jūratė Vaičiukaitė’s photography exhibition “City Tale” will take place at the Galaunė House-Museum (Vydūno Avenue 2, Kaunas).
"My friend, explain to me what the color green looks like?" – this question is asked in Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis’s literary work “The Fairy Tale” (1918). Spoken in a city tormented by heat, the question invites multiple interpretations and a deeper perception of the world. Inspired by this work, artist Jūratė Vaičiukaitė, in her photography exhibition “The Tale of the City”, explores the human longing imbued with the search for renewal, inner peace, and a different way of life.
The photographs are rich in symbols and metaphors – a messenger’s bench, a golden tower, a lily blossom, underwater stairs, and a mystical garden. This sequence of images creates a mysterious, dreamlike atmosphere where reality intertwines with fantasy. Through the exhibition, the artist invites visitors to discover the literary heritage of M. K. Čiurlionis, opening new perspectives for interpreting his work in contemporary culture.
Lithuanian-born photographer Jūratė Vaičiukaitė graduated from the Agnès Varda School of Photography and Visual Arts in Brussels, Belgium. Her works have been presented in various international exhibitions in Portugal, Belgium, and Lithuania.
The event is open to the public and will be filmed and photographed. By atending the event you agree to be featured in photographs and videos of the event and are informed that these photographs and videos may be made public.
