GEORGE MACIUNAS TURNS 95! “DEAR GEORGE” HAPPENING LIVE FROM NEW YORK

"Dear George" – a  happening created in New York especially for George Maciunas’s birthday.

On November 8 at 7 PM, join us at Kaunas Picture Gallery (K. Donelaičio St. 16, Kaunas) to watch the performance live.

“Dear George is also a letter to Lithuania’s most famous artist in the world, whom we still don’t understand and are afraid of. George Maciunas embodies everything we fear in contemporary art: uncomfortable questions, unseriousness, jokes and pranks! In form, the event is an afterparty – the part of a party that takes place after the party itself, when you can speak without thinking about the consequences of your words and actions. The cake has already been eaten, the official part is over, there is no need to pretend anymore, and you can finally talk about what’s weighing on your heart.”

“It is impossible to talk about the art history of Lower Manhattan without mentioning the Fluxus movement and its initiator, George Maciunas. The artists he brought together transformed our understanding of what art is and blurred the boundaries between art and everyday life. Maciunas’s legacy reminds us that culture knows no geographical boundaries.”
