"THE YOUTH PLATFORM“: LAIMA KULBYTĖ'S EXHIBITION "WHERE THE ROOTS OF THE MOUNTAIN ARE, THERE LIES THE CORE"

At Kaunas Picture Gallery (K. Donelaičio g. 16, Kaunas), we continue the exhibition cycle “The Youth Platform” and present Laima Kulbytė‘s exhibition "Where the Roots of the Mountain are, there lies the Core". 

The exhibition Where the Roots of the Mountain are, there lies the Core explores spatial experience, the human relationship with the environment and geological time, researches themes of origin, identity, and mythology.

The artist creates video installations, sculptures, organizes performances, often employing organic and experimental materials such as beeswax, fish skin, and cast lava rock. The project invites us to rethink humanity’s place in the world where humans are no longer the central axis. Time here is experienced as a living, flowing, and recurring process in which the past constantly flows into the present.

The idea for this project was generated in Iceland during her residency where she studied the island's prehistory and tried to imagine who might have lived there before the first settlers arrived.  This exhibition is an attempt to create a space where the invisible becomes visible, and the intangible becomes tangible.

Laima Kulbytė is an artist of interdisciplinary art, she lives and works in Vilnius. In 2024, she participated in the SÍM residency in Iceland during which the artist started a research project that became the basis for the exhibition Where the Roots of the Mountain are, there lies the Core.
