The exhibition by BIONICS, codex.prototype, explores the concepts of transhumanism, posthumanism, and artificial intelligence. It presents a fictional scenario/experiment wherein living organisms are required to evolve by modifying their physical structure and adapting to changes in their natural and living environment in order to cope with environmental shifts.
The ecological challenges affecting the adaptation of flora and fauna have become too pervasive to be resolved solely through natural cycles. The intersection between biological organisms and technology has reshaped the concept of evolution, expanding it beyond natural adaptation and encompassing a process influenced by technology.
This concept has blurred the boundaries between natural evolution and artificial enhancement. Humanity has ventured into manipulating life and its creation. Biotechnology and genetic modification have emerged as tools to accelerate adaptation or generate completely new forms and synthetic environments. The limits of existence have expanded through the synthesis of these biological and technological components, giving rise to a new breed of bionic organisms capable of simulating vital characteristics, such as respiration, growth, and adaptation.
The exhibition comprises five sections, featuring prototypes that traverse different periods, unveiling shifts in the perception of life, identity, technology, and artificial intelligence. These sections explore the transition from the transformative event that affected flora and fauna to the concept of existing without needing a physical body. The exhibition's narrative is meticulously crafted, drawing upon historical and factual information and natural principles and laws within a simulated environment.
The basis of the work of the interdisciplinary art duo BIONICS (Lina Pranaitytė and Urtė Pakers) is the synthesis of art and science, exploring themes such as human perception and the relationship between organic formations and technology.
Their works combine various media, including sound, image, installation, light, mapping technology, sensors, and performativity. BIONICS draw inspiration from disciplines such as natural sciences and philosophy.
The duo began their creative activities in 2011 and has since actively participated in various projects, workshops, exhibitions, and festivals. In 2018, they released their debut electronic music album titled "CYCLES" and collaborated with artists from other fields and representatives of various disciplines.
