“I am here not to be tolerated, I am here to provoke you”

XVIII International Vilnius Painting Triennial exhibition by artists from the Nordic countries, Poland, and Lithuania.

The Vilnius Painting Triennial, an international event with a rich history dating back to 1969, is held every three years. This year's Triennial spotlights the Nordic countries—Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark—whose artists are often at the forefront of responding to contemporary global events. Continuing the tradition, the Triennial also presents artworks from the Baltic States and Poland.

The aim of this edition is to highlight the pressing issues of our time and explore how artists address and reflect upon them through their work. The event places a strong emphasis on the latest and innovative trends in painting, striving to capture and conceptualize the essence of contemporary art. It also seeks to showcase the diversity and evolution of artistic expression within the medium of painting. This triennial raises an important question: can painting, as a medium, fulfill the broader purpose of art—to encourage critical thinking, educate, and enlighten?

The first part of the triennial begins at the Kaunas Picture Gallery, showcasing works by contemporary artists from the Nordic countries, Poland, and Lithuania.
