Postcards by M. K. Čiurlionis – small correspondence cards make it possible to trace the stages of the artist's life, expectations and moods. Laconic yet eloquent drawings, short but often very sensual texts written in pen and ink on obverses and reverses reveal his personality traits, inclinations and state of physical health. While the artist's handwriting is equally interesting to contemporary graphologists and scholars.
Living in European cities, travelling or creating, M. K. Čiurlionis loved to share his impressions and artistic ideas with his family and friends, but his brother Povilas received the most attention and love. With him he shared creative ideas, discussed successes, failures, and visions for his work. The postcards with sketches of themes and compositions of his early paintings ("Peace", "Forest Rustle", "Danger"), which have survived to this day, are also a reflection of Čiurlionis's inclination towards mysticism and symbolism of Fin de siecle.
