The painting of M. K. Čiurlionis is very important testimony of the modernity in Lithuanian art at the beginning of 20th century. This is also a great importance to the artist G. R. Šatūnas, which is why he dedicates his exhibition to the upcoming 150th anniversary of the birth of M. K. Čiurlionis. "And the special earthly beginning, the basis of all things and the birthing force, harmonizing within itself what comes from heaven. Impenetrable and encompassing all things, his power is infinite. In him lies great light and he guides all things to the fulfilment of their purpose."
G. R. Šatūnas graduated Atgimimas School in Druskininkai. Later he studied stained-glass and decorative applied arts in Estonia, at the Tallinn Academy of Arts, where he obtained the qualification of a painter. Completed an internship at a glass factory in Vilnius. The stained-glass windows created by him decorated several state buildings and several churches in Lithuania (stained-glass at the Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius, stained glass in the churches of Druskininkai, Kybartai and Gelvonai). G. R. Šatūnas creates not only in the field of stained-glass, the artist uses mixed techniques in his work, architecture, landscapes are often the subjects of his paintings. G. R.
